 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. With more than 2,000 employees, the FNLCR is responsible for pursuing translational and applied biomedical research that is unique from academia, the pharmaceutical industry, or other federal contractors. The selected candidate will join the Applied and Developmental Research Directorate (ADRD) supporting operations in the Patient-Derived Models Repository (pdmr.cancer.gov).

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has developed a national repository of Patient-Derived Models (PDMs) comprised of patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), in vitro patient-derived tumor cell cultures (PDCs) and cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) as well as patient-derived organoids (PDOrg). These models serve as a resource for public-private partnerships and for academic drug discovery efforts. These PDMs are clinically-annotated with molecular information available in an easily accessible database and available to the extramural community.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to QC data entry and animal study set-ups
  • QC of animal study set-up database tracking efforts (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Freezerworks, FileMaker Pro and Study Log)
  • QC animal study set-ups for export to the animal facilities
  • Review animal facility in vivo receipt data entry for consistency
  • Create manifests for sample transfers to processing/repository facilities, QC data and initiate vial relabels as needed, transfer material between on-site buildings
  • Oversee tracking and storage of all sample requests from processing/repository facilities
  • QC Study Log/Microsoft Excel study-set ups
  • Coordinate and track annual equipment maintenance, calibration, and repair calls
  • Provide back-up support for software used by animal study technicians
  • Maintain update SOPs for all tasks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a high-school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong multitasking, organizational, logic, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, but also coordinate work efforts with team members
  • Ability to perform data entry, data retrieval, and data QA/QC across multiple platforms
  • Minimum of college entry level math skills
  • Experience working with MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to learn new software applications quickly
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (according to CHEA)
  • Experience in quality assurance or control for technical documents, or similar
  • Knowledge of File Maker Pro, Study Log, Freezerworks, or similar
