Position Overview:

THIS POSITION HAS A TERM OF APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AND WILL BE PAYROLLED THRU AN OUTSIDE AGENCY – MAY RESULT IN FULL TIME POSITION AT END  THE 1 YEAR TERM WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO


100% TELECOMMUTE – WILL BE REQUIRED TO  ATTEND ONSITE MEETINGS IN SUBURBAN CHICAGO AREA – MUST LIVE IN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE AT OWN EXPENSE TO THE CHICAGO AREA

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Genomic Data Commons is a state of the art clinical and genomic data sharing platform being developed by the National Cancer Institute at the University of Chicago.  Leidos Biomedical Research is funded by the federal government to manage and oversee this effort.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs a variety of activities relating to software support and/or development. Provides analysis, design, development, debugging, and modification of computer code for end user applications, beta general releases, web pages, and production support. Troubleshoots problems using existing procedures to find a possible solution.

  • Investigates, analyzes and resolves day-to-day technical problems using standard procedures
  • Works with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for developmental programs
  • Receives a moderate level of guidance to design applications to meet University and business requirements
  • Performs code testing on components and works to ensure that appropriate implementation standards are met
  • Evaluates design alternatives for development cost and solutions using various methods
  • Supports and maintains existing applications
  • Works with web developers and responds to requests from users

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education    Accreditation or equivalent experience in related discipline and with 0-2 years of additional relevant experience.Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Masters degree
  • Advanced experience using Python (preferred), Javascript (a plus), C/C++, Java, or Ruby
  • Unix/Linux experience
  • Version control experience required. Knowledge of Elastic stack, PostgreSQL and /or Spark
  • High performance/cloud computing experience
  • Unix/Linux programming or system administration experience
  • Git version control experience preferred. Experience with genomics
